Behind the mysterious notion of Extrusiarch lies something resembling a creation myth. Loosely informed by Gnostic ideas, it describes a membrane or transitional state through which the unformed becomes physical — where preliminary matter begins to acquire solidity, shape and perhaps even anthropomorphic form.
The Extrusiarch is not itself a power, but rather a part of this transformative process. Matt Waldron, aka irr. app. (ext.), describes it as:
“The Extrusiarch: an entity-shaped non-entity lingering in the imaginary space between a thing and a process, between a phantom and a phenomenon, between a consciousness and an event. The bridge to the microscopic origins of creativity. So be good, for goodness' sake.”
The album’s two extended compositions inhabit precisely this uncertain boundary: a place of exchange between amorphous energies and the material manifestations of our world. Just as something begins to take recognisable form, however, it seems to dissolve and slip from your grasp once again.
Drone-infused soundscapes are populated by strange organic presences — breathing, ringing, pulsing and murmuring — creating a surreal intermediate world suspended somewhere between the tangible and the imaginary. It is a world that can be entered with wonder, explored repeatedly, yet perhaps never completely understood.
2 tracks. 52:25 minutes. Presented in a 6-panel digi-sleeve featuring four new cover collages by Matt Waldron.
