Finnish project Voidwind presents its debut album Clad In Your Misery, a deeply melancholic fusion of atmospheric black metal, depressive darkness and slow-moving doom.
Built around three extended compositions and the closing Old And Empty, the album unfolds patiently through layers of distorted and clean guitars, sombre synthesiser textures and deceptively simple piano-like melodies. Rather than merely providing a backdrop, the keyboards frequently move to the foreground, giving the music a distinctly atmospheric and almost cinematic depth.
Vocals emerge from within the music as pained cries, distant rasps, whispers and spoken passages, while recurring guitar and keyboard themes continually shift their roles throughout the compositions. Despite the lengthy tracks and predominantly mid-paced approach, the arrangements remain fluid, gradually moving between moments of fragile beauty and heavier, darker passages.
Lyrically and emotionally, Clad In Your Misery is steeped in sorrow, regret, isolation and loss. There is a haunted beauty running throughout the album — music that feels simultaneously cold and strangely comforting.
Created by NGK, with additional synthesiser work and backing vocals from G666 / Grim666 of Waeltaja, Clad In Your Misery should appeal to listeners of Kalmankantaja, Katatonia, Swallow The Sun, Dolorian and atmospheric black metal with a strong doom influence.
Digipak CD in limited pressing.
